I'll relate my one experience with guide rod change: I had a KelTec which I bought as an LCP substitute when the Ruger LCP .380 1st came out (they sold out everywhere). It came with a polymer guide rod. KelTec themselves offered a metal guide rod replacement. I bought it, used awhile, then the recoil spring broke.
